Now that soccer season is over, Logan was able to get her long-awaited 10th birthday gift yesterday--pierced ears. She was quite nervous, as evidenced by the "no pictures please" wave in the first photo, but it was over very quickly. She's pleased!

Lots of Lasts
Today was a difficult one. Last day of sixth grade for Larkin at Lee, last day of fourth grade for Logan and what at this point is probably her last day at Zavala, and the last soccer scrimmage (Bluebonnets v. Lawnmowers--aka the parents) with goalie Maya, who has been on the team since first grade. Lots of big emotions all day.

4 v 4 Tournament
The Mia Hammers reunited today to play in the St. Louis Catholic School 4 v. 4 soccer tournament, where they came in 2nd last year to a co-ed team consisting of four boys and two girls, who scored a suspicious goal to tie it up and then won in penalty kicks. Larkin and her friends are not a bit competitive, as evidenced by their impeccable memory of this infuriating defeat one year ago. Alas, they ended up in the final game again this year against the same co-ed team, whose smallest player was the same size as our largest player (thin-as-a-rail Larkin). Things did not turn out in our favor again this year, but the Mia Hammers can be proud that they beat one co-ed team this go-round, which was pretty sweet to watch, especially because one boy was so mouthy.
Logan's NASA soccer team, the Corgis, split into two teams to play in the tournament, too. Logan's team won one, tied one, and lost one for a tournament trifecta. It was a long day of disorganized tournament fun, and we will look forward to next year.

Mother's Day 2023
Grandaddy and Nana came to visit this weekend. We braved torrential rain in our cute brunch outfits to enjoy a Mother's Day Brunch at Easy Tiger, only to forget to take any pictures. We toyed with the idea of an Escape Room for our afternoon entertainment but couldn't get a reservation in the one that would have worked with our schedule, so we ended up at the Super Mario Brothers movie and then at the Zavala playground so Logan could show Nana and Grandaddy her gymnastics flips on some of the playground equipment. A ragtag group of adults was standing in a circle on the other side of the playground, practicing their marching band instruments. It was a surprisingly good soundtrack for Logan's routine. We then ended up with takeout BBQ at the apartment, where we finally remembered to snap a couple of photos. An eclectic Mother's Day, for sure!

Sunshine Run
Larkin ran in the Sunshine Run 5k this morning in downtown Austin with the Lee Elementary running club. It was her last race with the club, and she PR'd with a time of 27:51. She had a soccer game yesterday and another this afternoon, so she's definitely dipping into all the energy reserves this weekend.

Happy 10th Birthday, Logan!!!!
Logan had a big birthday today. She had doughnuts with her class and then a Reading Rally parade where she dressed as Goldilocks. We dressed up and went to a hibachi grill for dinner, where both girls tried new foods and no one cried. She them opened gifts with the appropriate level of enthusiasm.
