I made it to Cleveland yesterday afternoon and am masking up around other people till my Covid symptoms have passed. M.A. and Uncle Ned rode herd over Larkin, Logan, Maggie, and Mary Claire all week and deserve many naps now. The performance was this morning, followed by lots of tears from Larkin since she'll be too old next year to participate.

That's a Wrap on Plus Camp

Dispatches from Mississippi
As these things go, I tested positive for Covid on Friday morning before the girls and I were supposed to leave for Mississippi on Saturday. So Marvin drove them to Marshall yesterday, where Grandaddy picked them up and drove them to Madison. They will go to Cleveland today and start Plus Camp at DSU tomorrow.
Larkin sent a photo of her bags, which do not look as they did when I packed for her on Friday. Let's hope her clothes are still in there somewhere.

Tubing in San Marcos--Rounds One and Two
The girls and I loaded up and drove to San Marcos on Monday morning to ride the tube chutes at Rio Vista Park and to tube in Stokes Park. About 90 minutes in, a thunderstorm settled in and we had to give up for the day. So we returned today with Larkin's friend Lexie, her brother Jack, and their mom Margie. The kids spent four hours in the chutes and I spent most of my time pushing wayward rafters back into the rapids and shuddering inwardly at the poor decisions a lot of teenagers (and some adults) were making around the rocks and white water. Why would you ever dive headfirst into rocky white water??? Needless to say, I'm fairly exhausted from my afternoon of self-appointed lifeguarding.

Annie at Paramount Summer Film Series
We took the girls to see _Annie_ on Sunday afternoon, which was showing downtown at Stateside at the Paramount as part of their summer classic film series. It was a good use of time in the on-going triple digit temps, and I still made it back to see most of the glorious Ole Miss victory that followed.

Juneteenth Parade
Marvin took the girls (and their friend Lexie) to the Juneteenth Parade this morning in East Austin, which Larkin and Logan remembered so fondly from last year because of the buckets of candy they came home with. This year proved equally fruitful.

Carver Center Camp
Logan and her good friend Penny went to a camp this week at the Carver Museum, where they worked on a play, music, and dance all week. They performed the play today and have had a fun week together.

Logan is at an arts camp this week at the Carver Museum. Larkin has UT soccer camp with a bunch of Bluebonnets each morning followed by afternoons in the pool with whichever friends end up there.

Austin FC Game
We took the girls to an Austin FC soccer game last night, which was the first time Marvin, Logan, and I had been in the stadium. Larkin had been to the first game ever held in the stadium last year, to see the women's national team. Parking took some planning, the temperature was still in the 90s at 8:00 PM, 20 oz bottles of water were $7.00 each, and we lost 4-1. But the stadium and atmosphere were great, and we all had fun.

Snow Cones and Hula Hoops
When the day's news is incomprehensible, a walk to get snow cones after dinner (and hula hooping while we wait) is all that will do.

Harry Potter Club
Larkin and a few of her friends started the Harry Potter Club at school this year. It was very serious business, including multiple weekend planning sessions.
5th Grade Graduation
Final Gymnastics Class
Logan's gymnastics class did a demonstration for parents on Tuesday at their last class of the year.

The Mia Hammers
Larkin and five of her soccer buddies played in a 4v4 soccer tournament this morning. "The Mia Hammers" played some serious soccer and came out in 2nd place. The winning team consisted of four boys and two girls, but despite the imbalance, Larkin's team *almost* beat them in both games they played. They ended up tying the second game and having a shoot out as the tie breaker, where the other team won out in the end. Regardless, it was a lot of fun to watch them play so successfully together. Unfortunately, two of the teammates got away before the photo op. Go Hammers!!
