Sweet Pre-K Girl

In all the rush of Larkin and me being back in school, I forgot to post about Logan officially starting Pre-K. Granted, it's in the same class she has been in since June, but when we arrived Monday morning, we found that the class had been renamed the Whales instead of Leaping Frogs and that her teachers were back in school mode, too. She has to sign herself in every morning and can only take one lovey for naptime. In other words, SERIOUS business.

First Day of First Grade!!!

Larkin said she was "more than terrified" about starting firsr grade, but by the end of the day, she was "more than happy" about it. She's in Ms. Graham's class, which is the name she always used last year when playing school.

Hakuna Matata

A successful show! Simba managed to run Scar out of the Pridelands to reclaim the throne. Whew.

Riding to Camp

Larkin rode her bike to her last day of acting camp. She was so excited about the play that she woke up at 5 AM. As she was riding and I was walking beside her, she sighed really big and said, "What a day! Riding my bike, the wind in my hair, my mom beside me, going to my last day of acting camp to put on a play for my family and friends..." Meanwhile, she also reached over and casually honked her bike horn at a scooter passing by. He honked back, which surprised me but not Larkin. Apparently, that is just the biker way.

Learning Her Lines

Larkin is attending acting camp while I am in professional development this week. They will be performing a part of _The Lion King_ as their final production on Friday. Larkin is playing the role of "Adult Simba." She knows all the words to all the songs, so this is her dream role. Now we'll see if she can learn her actual lines!

Summer Dresses

The girls have discovered their dresses are much more comfortable in the August heat than their other clothes. We've been exhausting their summer frock collection weekly.

Half of the garage is now Larkin and Logan's workshop. Maybe one day we will sort through the files piled up in the corner behind them so they can have more room. For now, they are satisfied with this space.

Lunch at Hat Creek

Logan figured out that Larkin and I don't have school right now and has put her foot down about staying home with us. We went to lunch at a new Hat Creek location in North Austin today so Larkin could show Logan the playground. The old airstream has a seesaw in it that the girls call a "tater totter." I 100% endorse that name and will be sad when they realize it's named for the motions of teetering and tottering rather than for delicious fried potatoes.
