After some encouragement from her Athletics teacher, Logan decided to join the Ann Richards cross country team last week. She ran in her first meet this afternoon, a giant event out at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Southwest Austin. There were over 400 7th and 8th grade girls participating in the 2-mile race in the 95 degree heat this evening. (The high schoolers get the Saturday morning races around here.) On the way to the meet this afternoon, Logan said she was hoping to break 20 minutes. Then she amended that to 25 minutes because of the heat. Unsurprisingly, adrenaline and her competitive streak kicked in once the race started, and she finish in 16:13, coming in 81st out of 414 runners and 5th place for her team, which means she earned points for the team and helped them finish 8th overall out of 19 teams. Her coach was very pleased to see that she ran exactly even splits (8:06 mile 1 + 8:06 mile 2). She gets her metronomic pace from her mother, though I will not take credit for her speed. Not bad for her 1st meet and only 6 days of practice! Go, Logan, go!!
The meet made me just a little nostalgic, so I found the couple of photos today that I saved from high school. These were probably when I was a sophomore, so a few years older than Logan.
